What is a Mold Assessment? A Mold Assessment is a comprehensive visual inspection of a home or building, interior and exterior, in order to identify mold growth, the conditions that may contribute to mold growth, and any associated air quality concerns. As a property owner, it's important to understand how a home or building’s systems work together and how they may be contributing to an unhealthy environment. Areas of special attention include, but are not limited to, Attic Spaces, Basements, Crawlspaces, Kitchens, Bathrooms, Air Conditioning/Heating Systems, and their associated duct work. When applicable, a detailed inspection of the exterior components of the building/home, such as the roof, gutters, downspouts, grading and drainage is performed to identify potential exterior sources of water leaks and excessive humidity in the home that may be contributing to mold growth.
Specialized tools and testing devices are used to determine areas and conditions of concern, as well as assist in finding the cause of mold contamination. Lab tests may be performed to establish a baseline and help develop a hypothesis and action plan. Finally, a detailed report describing all findings and recommendations is provided. When necessary, a Mold Remediation Plan will be included, as well as suggestions to help prevent mold contamination going forward.
What to Expect from an NPI Rockland Mold Assessment The Mold Assessment begins with a conversation. It is important for us to understand your specific situation. We'll start by identifying any specific areas of concern and discuss any particular events or practices that may contribute to mold growth. During the assessment, some minimally invasive procedures may be performed, such as the temporary removal of ceiling tiles, insulation, carpet, trim, etc. We encourage our clients to be present during the assessment, which will allow your assessor to point out their observations, as well as help you better understand the process, any problems found, and the contents of our final report.
